Originally from the Yakima Valley, Chef Gene Soto has spent his culinary career working in fine-dining establishments in the Pacific Northwest. From a young age, he felt a calling to the kitchen so upon graduating high school, he attended Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon.
After working his way through school at The Governor Hotel in Portland, he headed to the coast and interned at Salishan Lodge & Resort. From there, he transferred to a sister property, Skamania Lodge, in Stevenson, WA, where he worked as Chef de Cuisine for 4 years.
In 1999, Chef Gene was offered & accepted a position as Executive Chef at Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon. Under Gene's 7-year tenure there, The Brewery became known as well for its food as for its master-crafted brews.
